Balvenie Tun 1858 Batch No.5 (Scottish Single Malt, 51.4% abv)
Nose: Caramel, vanilla and malt scents are accompanied by orange, brown sugar and light cinnamon. Pretty elegant. We see the influence of American oaks more than sherry.
Palate: Intense sweet flavors such as molasses, honey and vanilla are accompanied by lots of pepper and ginger. It is quite aromatic, full, silky and together a warm palate.
Finish: A long and slightly dry finish with vanilla, oak, cinnamon and honey aromas.
Comment: Balvenie Tun 1858 Batch No.5 has stuck in my memory as one of the most enjoyable Balvenie expressions I have tasted. In addition to its rich aroma and silky texture, it is a strong whiskey that gives you the feeling that you are drinking whiskey.
