Big Peat (Blended Malt, 46% abv)
Nose: Intense medicinal, peaty and salty notes with the first smell. These scents are accompanied by the seaweed, barley and truffles, which I first encountered in a whisky. It gives the impression of a young whiskey. With a little swirl, fruity notes such as lime and pear appears. The smell of Big Peat reminded me a bit of Vodka Martini and a bit of Margarita.
Palate: Peat character covers the entire palate. Followed by salted nuts, ash and black pepper. The sweet nuances that I get on the nose, are almost nonexistent on the palate.
Finish: Salty, peaty, rather long finish. Hot and dry.
My Comments: Big Peat definitely needs a few drops of water. It is a little difficult to get the notes hidden behind peat without adding water… After few drops, I got leather and fruit notes on the nose and palate. It is definitely for the ones who enjoy peaty whiskies.
