A beautiful bottle from independent bottler Compass Box! Released in 2021, Orchard House is blended with malt whiskies that stand out with their rich fruity characters. Orchard House contains 39% Linkwood, 29% Clynelish, 20% Benrinnes, 2% Caol Ila with 8% an unnamed Speyside malt and a 2% Highland blend. Cask variety is also quite rich with first-fill Bourbon casks, french oak casks and Oloroso Sherry casks.
I had the opportunity to taste Orchard House for the first time at the London Whiskey Show 2021. In 2022 bottling there is a little changes in the blend.
Compass Box Orchard House (Blended Malt, 46% abv)
Nose: A very fresh and fruity nose that does justify the name “Orchard House” with the first sniff. Rich fruity notes such as apple, pear, grape, peach, lemon are followed by vanilla and caramel.
Palate: Fruit character is still dominant similar with the nose. Apple, pear, peach and lemon flavors are followed by oak, vanilla, ginger and white pepper. 46% abv level shows itself.
Finish: Medium length, fruity, slightly spicy finish.
Overall: I have to admit Compass Box Orchard House disappointed me a little when I first tasted it on the London Whisky Show 2021. Yet, I really enjoyed when I came across it in the next tastings. An aromatic and literally “fresh” whisky with a strong fruity character. A malt blend that can be enjoyed especially in hot summer days.
