Elements of Islay Peat & Sherry (Scotland, Blended Malt, 58.5% abv)
Nose: It does justice to the phrase “Peat & Sherry” in its name. Both characters are very well-balanced despite being extremely intense. Sweet aromas such as raisins, molasses, caramel and liqueur are accompanied by plenty of peat, toast, wet oak, ginger and very light menthol. Quite aromatic and intense. It is also possible to get very light medicinal scents behind.
It will be an interesting analogy, but I can briefly describe Peat & Sherry as “a sweet sherry wine is poured over the tenderloin cooked in peat fire”…
Palate: The peat and sherry duo continues on the palate from where it left off. But here I can say that sherry is a bit sharper and more intense. Plenty of raisins, caramel and bitter flavors are accompanied by plenty of spicy and black pepper flavors. Finally, we feel slightly burnt and salty aromas on the palate. It's pretty full.
Finish: A long finish with lots of sherry and black pepper.
Comment: Elements of Islay Peat & Sherry is a whiskey that perfectly reflects the harmony of peat and sherry. I can say that I especially love the balance in the nose. Although we see that the peat effect on the palate is slightly reduced, the spicy aromas offer a very satisfying strong drink.
