Glenfiddich 15, 15-year expression of Glenfiddich, one of the first distilleries that comes to mind when Speyside is mentioned. Glenfiddich 15 (Sherry, Bourbon and new oak), which is put into 3 different barrels during maturation, *As a whiskey produced with the Solera method, it positions itself in a different place.
*Solera It is a very complex and enjoyable subject that can be covered in depth. For this reason, I will share a more detailed article about Solera in the coming weeks. However, when talking about Glenfiddich 15, I believe that Solera should also be mentioned briefly.
The Solera method is a ripening method used to make wine, sherry, brandy, beer and even vinegar. We can briefly summarize the purpose of this method as to create a balanced and high quality whiskey by blending it in a giant wooden tank after blending whiskeys of various ages in different barrels with a certain harmony and maturation.
Glenfiddich 15 Solera (İskoç Single Malt, %40 abv)
Nose: A very soft, delicate nose. Green apple, pear, honey and vanilla are in the foreground. It is also possible to get light milk chocolate and biscuit notes.
Palate: Sweet and fruity aromas are in the foreground. Sugar, honey, vanilla and apple. In addition to these, a light oak flavor brought by 15 years of maturity. There is a slight burning sensation given by spices such as ginger and cinnamon, but it does not bother at all, it is quite balanced. A creamy and easy-drinking expression.
Finish: Medium-length ginger, honey, very light black pepper.
Overall: It was the first time I had had Glenfiddich 15 in a vertical tasting. My tasting had Glenfiddich's expressions of 12, 15 and 18 years. The winner that day was 15 for me. After this tasting, I had the opportunity to drink many different expressions of Glenfiddich, but 15 has always had a special place for me.
I would say the Glenfiddich 15 is my favorite expression of the brand, for now…
