Expression of Lagavulin, one of the prominent distilleries of the Islay region, issued towards the end of 2019 and presented exclusively to Travel Retail. Lagavulin 10 is matured for 10 years in different barrels as aged Bourbon, first-filled and newly burned (charred) and bottled at 43 degrees.

Lagavulin 10 (Scottish Single Malt, abv)

Nose: With the first sniff, an intense smell of iodine, coal and black pepper… It is quite strong and sharp. I can say that I liken it to New Spirit. The alcohol level appeared to be higher than . Plenty of spicy and medicinal scents. Very light citrus notes with a little airiness of the glass.

Palate: Quite hot and dry with flavors of iodine, black pepper, black pepper and ash. It makes alcohol feel more than on the palate as it does on the nose. As you wait, the sweet aromas are released very slightly. Bitter honey, lemon and green apple.

Finish: Medium to long. A warm and dry finish with ash, pepper and salt.

Overall: I can say that Lagavulin 10 was a bit of a disappointment for me. The biggest reason for this is that I do not find this expression very balanced on the nose and palate. I think the iodine flavors overpower the other flavors.

Another negative comment I can make is that the expression gives the impression of being younger than 10 years. Despite this, its positive aspects are its easy drinking and character that can satisfy peat lovers.
