Laphroaig 10 is the 10-year standard bottling of Laphroaig, one of the iconic distilleries of the Islay region. Aged in old Bourbon barrels, the expression has an alcohol rating of 40 degrees.
Founded in 1810, Laphroaig (Pronounced: Lafroyg) distillery produces whiskeys with a very interesting flavor profile, although it reflects the general characteristics of the Islay region.

Nose: Intense soot, peat, leather, black pepper, coal and iodine notes are accompanied by medicated, burning, muddy scents. Scents such as light citrus and caramel appear as secondary aromas. Pretty strong…
I've heard really interesting tasting notes about this expression at many of the tastings I've attended: Band-aids, medicine cabinet, hospital tank, slime, mud, or trash cans to name a few.
Palate: A palate with plenty of pepper, salt and peat. Aromas such as caramel, malt and sweet oak appear after the aromas of medicinal, burnt and bitter ash. I can't say it's a soft whiskey, but after the profile on the nose, I was expecting a much harder whiskey. Surprisingly creamy.
Finish: A long finish with iodine, ash and earthy aromas.
Overall: Laphroaig 10 is indeed a whiskey that will be liked by those who love it and cannot even tolerate by those who don't… It is one of the whiskeys that answers the question "How do you get medicated smells in whiskey" in the best and clearest way? A very characteristic, peaty, peppery, strong expression. One of the true Islay classics…
