Macallan Edition No.5 is the 5th member of the Edition series released by the Macallan distillery, known as the Rolls-Royce of whiskey. Expression matured in American oak barrels and bottled with an alcohol rating of 48.5.

Macallan is a distillery that stands out and proudly states this by bottling all its expressions with the natural colors that come from the barrel at the end of maturation. Macallan Edition No.5, this is the brand “Natural Color” an expression he made to emphasize and honor his character.

Many distilleries use their whiskeys to standardize the color. "Caramel" uses. This colorant, which has no effect on the taste of whiskey, is indicated as "Caramel, E-150" on the bottle labels.

The bottle was designed in collaboration with the Pantone Color Institute. Purple, a color that we can call quite unusual for a whiskey label, was chosen in the design.

I had the opportunity to try this expression of Macallan for the first time at Whiskey Show London 2019, right after its launch. To my Whiskey Show London 2019 notes from this link .

Macallan Edition No.5 (İskoç Single Malt, %48.5 abv)

Nose: It has an aromatic and fresh character with vanilla, caramel, oak, cinnamon and light menthol.

Palate: Fruity and spicy on the palate. Fruity flavors such as apple, pear and peach are followed by cinnamon, pepper, ginger and light oak. Caramel and chocolate are also felt as secondary flavors. Quite plump and slippery.

Finish: Medium to long, fruity, spicy and slightly dry finish.

Comment: Macallan Edition No.5 is a well-balanced expression with generally sweet-spicy aromas. Although I can't put it among my favorite Macallan expressions, the fresh aromas in the nose and the fullness of the palate are the details that I like.
