A limited edition bottling of Scallywag from Douglas Laing, one of Scotland's most famous independent bottlers. As with all Scallywag bottles, Chocolate Edition is a blend of malt whiskies from Speyside distilleries such as Macallan, Glenrothes and Mortlach. The blended malt whisky has been matured exclusively in sherry casks chosen for their chocolate-heavy character.

Scallywag The Chocolate Edition is only released in 3500 bottles and bottled with 48% abv (Price at the time of tasting £57.50).

Scallywag The Chocolate Edition (Blended Malt, 48% abv)

Nose: The sherry effect is quite evident. Chocolate, coffee and caramel followed by red fruits, honey, toasted bread and lightly black pepper. It reminds me of aged Venezuelan rums. Full and aromatic.

Palate: The red fruit character is a little more evident on the palate. Red fruits, caramel, dark chocolate and brown sugar are followed by cinnamon, black pepper, pistachio and coffee. Quite elegant, sweet and slightly spicy.

Finish: A long finish with coffee, caramel and black pepper.

Overall: Scallywag The Chocolate Edition is a bottle that will definitely satisfy those who love sherry casks whiskies. As a rum and chocolate lover, I found it very enjoyable, especially on the nose... I smelled it again and again. Although it is quite sweet on the palate, it is full and lasting thanks to its spicy structure. It is also a good bargain with its £57.50 price tag.

The limited production destroys our chance to taste it in Turkey, however, as a sherry lover, your tasting notes were very appealing.
