A very special expression from the iconic distillery of the island of Skye, Talisker 43 Xpedition Oak. The bottling, which emerged as a result of a project the brand calls "The Atlantic Challenge", is undergoing a very interesting maturation process.

He embarks on a 3,264-mile transatlantic voyage with adventurous sailor James Aiken. During this journey, pieces of barrels are placed on the deck. After fighting the raging waves and winds throughout the journey, these pieces come to the distillery, are brought together and barreled, and the whiskeys that were distilled in the 1970s, that is, matured for about 40 years, are filled for a short time to finish.

Markanın kurulduğu yıla vurgu yapılarak sadece 1830 adet üretilen Talisker 43 Xpedition Oak, %49,7 alkol derecesiyle şişeleniyor.

I attended the Talisker 43 Xpedition Oak for the first time in London. Whiskey Show London 2021 I had the opportunity to taste it at the whiskey show. Afterwards, I came across this beauty again at a Talisker vertical tasting at Milroys.

Talisker 43 Xpedition Oak (İskoç Single Malt, %49,7 abv)

Nose: A surprising start with fruity fresh scents such as green apple, citrus and orange. It is followed by salt, cedar, leather, oak and light black pepper. I can also say that I have smells that I can call “like candles”. Even though it is not as much as other Talisker expressions, it always says I am in the background. Soft, layered and balanced.

Palate: Compared to the nose, I got more of the spicy character first on the palate. Black pepper, leather and oak are evident, the effect of age is evident. Then salty, sooty and sweet aromas such as caramel and honey. Full and bodied. It's a very rich and frankly difficult expression to interpret.

Finish: A warm, rich, long finish with flavors of salt, pepper, oak and light fruit.

Overall: Talisker 43 Xpedition Oak is one of the whiskeys I feel lucky to have tasted. In whiskeys like this, I prefer to taste and enjoy without prejudice, without getting too caught up in the expectations created by the story and the price. It is a highly layered, special whiskey that I find very surprising, especially on the nose, where despite its age, I can get rich balanced aromas and I can clearly feel the barrel character.
