Talisker 8 Special Release 2021 is the 8-year Talisker bottling of Diageo's annual Special Release series. We see a "From a selection of our smokiest reserves" mention on the label, which is a bit confusing. As far as we know, it basically refers, Talisker preferred the casks that has the heaviest peat character. Distilled in 2012 and aged for 8 years, Talisker 8 Special Release 2021 is bottled with 59.7%. (Price at the time of tasting: £90)

Talisker 8 Special Release 2021 (Single Malt Scotch, 59.7% abv)
Nose: Feels like a young Talisker with the first sniff. Peaty and medicinal notes are quite distinct. The notes of ash, seaweed, iodine and burnt oak are followed by vanilla, pear and lime.
Palate: As in the nose, peaty and medicinal character is very dominant. The aromas of ash, seaweed and iodine are accompanied by strong black pepper. It is also possible to get light fruity aromas such as vanilla, lemon and pear. Pretty warm and strong.
Finish: A long finish with peat, seaweed, iodine and peppery aromas.
Comment: Talisker 8 Special Release 2021 is an expression that I find a bit young and harsh. I'd say it missing complexity and balance we normally see in the other bottles of Talisker. I think it's a whisky that needs to be calmed down with a few drops of water.
