There are only a few days left until 2018… Many people are already busy thinking about questions such as “What to do on New Year's Eve, where to go, whether to celebrate New Year's Eve at home or outside”. The biggest question in my mind is, “Which whiskey should I drink on New Year's Eve?”… I'm sure there are other whiskey lovers who think about this question like me.

In this article, I will talk about 10 different whiskeys that come to mind when Christmas is mentioned.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label

“New Year's is one of the most special days of the year and this special day deserves to be celebrated with a special whiskey”  If you are, Johnnie Walker Blue Label may be the right choice for you.

It would not be wrong to say that Blue Label is one of the most prestigious whiskeys not only of the brand but also of all blends. Blue Label, which is formed by the blending of 16 malt and grain whiskeys selected carefully for 25-35 years, draws attention as one of the most expensive blends in the whiskey market.

Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Select

One of the most important reasons why I love New Year's Eve is the Christmas songs.

When I think of Christmas songs, the first thing that comes to mind is Frank Sinatra income. When it comes to Sinatra, of course Jack Daniel's…

Offering a more balanced and complex drink compared to the brand's standard expression, Old No.7, Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Select is one of the whiskeys you can choose for Christmas with its burnt, smoked and sweet notes.

Besides Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Select, there is also a background Frank Sinatra I highly recommend you listen. Sinatra's christmas songs from this link You can listen.

Lagavulin 16

One of the phenomenal expressions of Scotland's Islay region, Lagavulin 16 is one of the whiskeys that will suit the New Year's best with its rich sooty, peat, iodine and creamy character.

It should be noted that Lagavulin 16 is not a whiskey suitable for every palate with its intense and strong character. Therefore, if you intend to serve it to your guests, make sure that the people you serve like whiskey. As a matter of fact, if he is someone who does not like whiskey, 1 glass of Lagavulin will be wasted, and you will have changed your friend's view of whiskey in such a way that it will be very difficult to return to the positive again…

In addition to consuming it alone, you can also prefer Lagavulin 16 with a meal or an accompaniment. My preference is smoked cheeses, meat dishes or a snack plate consisting of dried figs, smoked almonds and roasted hazelnuts.

Johnnie Walker Black Label

Launched in 1909, Johnnie Walker Black Label is among the world's best-selling blends.

With its strong character that makes you feel like you are drinking a malt whiskey and its balanced structure that can adapt to many tastes, Black Label is among my favorite blends.

Offering a rich drinking performance, Black Label is also one of the most successful expressions in terms of price-performance. For this reason, it is a whiskey that can be preferred not only for special occasions but also for daily consumption.

Monkey Shoulder

Monkey Shoulder blends Balvenie, Glenfiddich and Kininvie malt whiskeys, which are distilled in the Speyside region of Scotland.

With its sweet, creamy and balanced structure, Monkey Shoulder is an expression that even your friends who do not like whiskey can enjoy with pleasure. Monkey Shoulder, one of the first whiskeys that comes to mind when it comes to price-performance, will also be very compatible with the cocktails you will prepare on New Year's Eve.

Hibiki Japanese Harmony Master's Select Blend

3 different whiskeys are matured in 3 different barrels and this amazing blend comes out, Hibiki Japanese Harmony Master's Select Blend… The expression blend includes malts from Suntory's Hakushu and Yamazaki distillery and grain whiskeys from Chita distillery.

Expression, which presents fruity and spicy notes with a wonderful balance, is a Japanese blend that does the full justice of the word "harmony" in its name.

There are some whiskeys that you can't bear to throw away the bottle even if the whiskey runs out. Hibiki Japanese Harmony Master's Select Blend has exactly such a bottle. You can keep this bottle as a lamp, carafe or even for the next Christmas and use it as a Christmas ornament.

Aberlor A'Bunadh

%60,7’lik yüksek alkol oranı ile Aberlour A’Bunadh, yılbaşı gecesi içinizi fazlasıyla ısıtacak bir viski…

Don't be intimidated by this high alcohol content, because Aberlor A'Bunadh is cask hard.* Although it is an expression, it is a very easy-drinking whiskey with dry fruit, vanilla and liqueur notes in the foreground.

If you choose this whiskey, I recommend drinking Aberlour A'Bunadh with a few drops of water. As a matter of fact, with this method, you can feel the dry fruit and bitter aromas more clearly.

*Cask Strength: Whiskeys that are bottled as they come out of the barrel and whose alcohol content is not diluted by adding water.

Glenmorangie Lasanta 12

Glenmorangie Lasanta 12, aged in white oak bourbon barrels for 10 years and Spanish Oloroso sherry barrels for 2 years, has a magnificent scent and a long-lasting delicious palate.

Glenmorangie Lasanta 12, which contains notes such as orange, chocolate, caramel, raisins, biscuits and spices in its tasting profile, is a whiskey that can fit well with the Christmas concept with its soft and aromatic structure.

Even the colors used in the bottle design of Glenmorangie Lasanta 12 are enough to remind you of the New Year...

I recommend you to try Lasanta, which I like very much with chocolate, especially with orange or raisin dark chocolate.

Glenfiddich 18 Small Batch Reserve

Glenfiddich 18 Small Batch Reserve is a very rich, fruity, soft and elegant expression, produced by carefully selected and maturing 150 barrels in sherry and bourbon barrels after being married for a certain period of time.

Even the scent of Glenfiddich 18 Small Batch Reserve evokes New Year's Eve… In addition to fruity notes such as apple, pear, grape, oak, cinnamon and liquor aromas…

I tried Glenfiddich 18 Small Batch Reserve for the first time at the Glenfiddich vertical tasting with a small group of friends. Although my favorite in my taste was Glenfiddich 15, the majority preferred Small Batch Reserve. I would like to point out that a large part of this majority is composed of my girlfriends who are prejudiced against whiskey.

So, if you're looking for a whiskey that the ladies can enjoy for Christmas, Glenfiddich 18 Small Batch Reserve may be the right choice.

Jameson Black Barrel

It would be okay not to add an Irishman to the list… Irish whiskeys are generally known as soft and light whiskeys. If that's how you know it, Jameson Black Barrel might change your view.

Jameson Black Barrel is a very rich and aromatic whiskey, produced by maturing single pot whiskeys and grain whiskeys in sherry and twice-burned bourbon barrels.

Offering much more intense aromas compared to Jameson's other expressions, Black Barrel contains notes such as spice, hazelnut, sherry and vanilla. Black Barrel also has the soft-drinking character of the brand that we are used to.

Happy New Years to everyone in advance!
