İskoçya’nın Lowland bölgesinde bulunan Bladnoch damıtımevinin Master Distiller’s Collection serisinin 2. üyesi Bladnoch The Wave II, baş damıtımcı Dr Nick Savage’ın özenle seçtiği ilk dolum bourbon ve re-charred butt fıçılarında olgunlaşmış viskilerin Amontillado şeri beklemiş tanklarda evlendirilmesiyle ortaya çıkıyor. 2022 yılında bu tanklara aktarılan viskiler, yaklaşık iki yıl boyunca burada dinleniyor ve %57 alkol derecesiyle şişeleniyor.

Bladnoch, her yıl planlı olarak devam ettirdiği bu seride, evlendirme işleminde kullandığı Amontillado tanklarında arta kalan viskiyi bir sonraki edisyon için ayırıyor ve yeni fıçılardan gelen viskilerle harmanlamak üzere bekletiyor. Serinin ilk şişesi olan The Wave II’den yalnızca 1817 adet üretilmiş durumda.

Bladnoch The Wave II: Distillery and Spirit (Single Malt Scotch, %57 abv)

Burun: İlk koklamayla beraber oldukça dolgun bir hissiyat veriyor. Jelibon, şeftali, kuru kayısı, ananas kokularına malt, tarçın ve zencefil eşlik ediyor. Kadehin biraz havalanmasıyla meşe ve deri gibi nüasnslar ekleniyor ve kompleks bir karakter görmeye başlıyoruz.

Damak: Şaşırtıcı derecede ağız sulandırıcı bir tatlılıkta. İlk yudumda biraz sıcak hissettirse (%57 alkol derecesi için oldukça normal) de ikinci yudumla beraber kremamsılık öne çıkıyor. Kayısı, ananas, jelibon, vanilya gibi dolgun tatlı nüanslara zencefil ve tarçın eşlik ediyor.

Bitiş: Karamel, taçın ve zencefil ile sıcak ve uzun bir bitiş.

Genel Yorumlarım: Bladnoch genel olarak limitli şişelerini yakından takip ettiğim bir marka. Bu ekspresyondaki Amontillado tank detayı da beni fazlasıyla heyecanlandırdı. Bladnoch The Wave II, burunda ve damaktaki dolgun yapısıyla hoşuma giden bir viski oldu. Markanın alışık olduğumuz zarif karakteri fıçı detayı ve yüksek alkol derecesiyle beraber kompleks bir görüntüye evrilmiş. Serinin devamını heyecanla bekleyeceğim.

Bladnoch The Wave II is the second release in the Master Distiller’s Collection from Bladnoch Distillery, located in Scotland’s Lowland region. This expression was created by Dr. Nick Savage, Bladnoch’s Master Distiller, who carefully selected whiskies matured in first-fill bourbon barrels and re-charred butt casks. These whiskies were then married in casks that had previously held Amontillado sherry. Transferred into the marrying casks in 2022, the whisky rested there for around two years before being bottled at a bold 57% ABV.

As part of this annually planned series, Bladnoch sets aside the remaining whisky left in the Amontillado marrying casks after bottling. This residual spirit is then held back to be blended with fresh casks for the next edition. Only 1,817 bottles of this debut release, The Wave II, have been produced.

Nose: Right from the first sniff, it offers a rich and full-bodied impression. Notes of gummy candy, peach, dried apricot, and pineapple are layered with malt, cinnamon, and ginger. As the glass opens up, nuances of oak and leather begin to emerge, revealing a more complex character.

Palate: Surprisingly mouthwatering in its sweetness. While the first sip brings a bit of warmth (quite expected for its 57% ABV), a creamy texture follows quickly on the second. Bold, sweet notes of apricot, pineapple, gummy candy, and vanilla are complemented by hints of ginger and cinnamon.

Finish: Warm and long, with lingering notes of caramel, cinnamon, and ginger.

Overall Impressions: Bladnoch is a brand whose limited releases I closely follow, and the Amontillado tank detail in this expression immediately caught my attention. Bladnoch The Wave II impressed me with its fullness on both the nose and palate. The brand’s signature elegance evolves here into a more layered and complex profile, thanks to the cask influence and high ABV. I’ll be looking forward to the next releases in the series with great anticipation.
