Whisky Show London’da tatma şansı yakaladığım Dewar’s Double Double 37 Year Old Blended Malt, daha henüz birkaç yudum sonrası “2024’ün en iyileri listemde mutlaka yer alacak” dediğim bir viskiydi. John Dewar & Sons firmasının altında bulunan Dewar’s markası bünyesinde Craigellachie ve Aberfeldy markalarını barındırıyor. Bu 3 markanın bu sene çok ciddi bir atak yaptığını ve birçok yarışmada bol ödül toplandığını belirtmeliyim. Aynı gruba ait Craigellachie’nin yine 37 yıllık bir şişesinin geçen seneki listemde yer alması ilginç bir tesadüf oldu.

Dewar’s Double Double 37 Year Old (Blended Malt Scotch, 48% abv)

Baş harmancı Stephanie Macleod tarafından yaratılan Dewar’s Double Double 37 Year Old Blended Malt, “double double” adı verilen 4 aşamalı oldukça kompleks bir olgunlaşma sürecinden geçiyor. Highland ve Island maltlarının karışımından oluşan bu malt harmanı olgunlaşmanın sonunda ise içlerinde Aultmore maltı beklemiş Oloroso şeri fıçılarına alınıyor ve %48 alkol derecesiyle şişeleniyor. Burunda dolgun kayısı, şeftali, bal, tarçın, deri ve çok çok hafif is; damakta ise reçel, vanilya, toffee ve meşe nüansları. Burunda çok dengeli ve zengin iken, damakta müthiş kremamsı bir doku sunuyor.

The Dewar’s Double Double 37 Year Old Blended Malt, which I had the chance to taste at the Whisky Show London, instantly made it onto my “Best of 2024” list after just a few sips. The Dewar’s brand, under the John Dewar & Sons umbrella, includes Craigellachie and Aberfeldy. I must note that these three brands have made significant strides this year, collecting numerous awards at various competitions. Interestingly, a 37-year-old bottling from Craigellachie, also part of the same group, made it onto my list last year as well—a curious coincidence.

Created by master blender Stephanie Macleod, Dewar’s Double Double 37 Year Old Blended Malt undergoes a highly complex four-stage maturation process known as “double double.” This malt blend, composed of Highland and Island malts, is finished in Oloroso sherry casks that previously held Aultmore malt and is bottled at 48% ABV.

On the nose, it reveals rich aromas of apricot, peach, honey, cinnamon, leather, and a very subtle hint of smoke. The palate delivers notes of jam, vanilla, toffee, and oak. While the nose is remarkably balanced and rich, the palate offers an exquisite creamy texture.
