Speyside bölgesinin köklü damıtımevlerinden Benriach, modern tekniklerle geleneksel üretim yöntemlerini başarıyla harmanlayan nadir damıtımevlerinden biri. Markanın “Malting Season” serisi bu yaklaşımın en somut örneklerinden biri. Her yıl sınırlı sayıda üretilen bu seri, damıtımevinin geleneksel yerde maltlama (floor malting) çimlendirdiği arpalarla üretiliyor.

Malting Season serisinin dördüncü ve son üyesi Benriach 10 Malting Season – Fourth Edition, geçtiğimiz günlerde viski severlerle buluştu. 2012, 2013 ve 2014 yıllarında maltlanan arpaların damıtılıp Bourbon ve Oloroso şeri fıçılarda 10 yıl olgunlaştırılmasıyla üretilen yeni ekspresyon %47.9 alkol derecesiyle şişelenmiş.

Burun: İlk koklamayla birlikte dolgun bir tatlılık kendini hissettiriyor. Arpa, kahvaltılık gevrek, vanilya, kayısı, portakal reçeli ve lotus bisküvi kokularına zarif meşe ve kremamsı nüanslar eşlik ediyor.Oldukça zarif, dengeli ve dolgun.

Damak: Burunda olan kremamsı hissiyatı damakta net bir şekile görüyoruz. Tuzlu karamel, arpa, şekerli jelibon, portakal, limon ve tarçın tatlarını meşe ve badem takip ediyor. Kremamsı ve dengeli.

Bitiş: Tuzlu karamel, badem, narenciye ve limon nüansları ile orta-uzun bir bitiş.

Genel Yorumlarım: Benriach 10 Malting Season – Fourth Edition, genel olarak oldukça dengeli, zarif ve tatlı bir ekspresyon. Özellikle burun ve damaktaki kremamsı ve dolgun karakteri çok başarılı buldum. Zaman zaman tadım notlarımda kullandığım “tatlı arpa” kokusu için referans olabilecek bir viski. Bourbon fıçı karakteri Oloroso şeri fıçılarına kıyasla daha belirgin, bu nedenle de harika bir denge yakalanmış.

Benriach is one of the few well-established distilleries in the Speyside region that successfully combines traditional production methods with modern techniques. The distillery’s Malting Season series stands as a clear reflection of this philosophy. Released in limited quantities each year, this series is crafted using barley malted in-house through the traditional floor malting process.

The latest and fourth release in the series, Benriach 10 Malting Season – Fourth Edition, was recently introduced to whisky enthusiasts. This new expression was distilled from barley malted during the 2012, 2013, and 2014 seasons, and matured for 10 years in a combination of bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks. Bottled at 47.9% ABV, it offers a unique snapshot of Benriach’s heritage-driven craftsmanship.

Nose: A rich sweetness reveals itself right from the first nosing. Notes of barley, breakfast cereal, vanilla, apricot, orange marmalade, and Lotus biscuits are elegantly wrapped in hints of oak and a creamy undertone. It’s refined, well-balanced, and full-bodied.

Palate: The creamy sensation detected on the nose is even more pronounced on the palate. Flavors of salted caramel, barley, gummy candies, orange, lemon, and cinnamon are followed by oak and almond. Creamy and harmonious.

Finish: Medium to long finish with lingering notes of salted caramel, almond, citrus, and lemon zest.

Overall: Benriach 10 Malting Season – Fourth Edition is a remarkably balanced, elegant, and sweet expression. I particularly appreciated its creamy and full-bodied character on both the nose and the palate. This whisky could easily serve as a reference point for what I sometimes describe in my tasting notes as a “sweet barley” profile. The bourbon cask influence is more prominent than that of the Oloroso sherry casks, striking a beautiful and well-integrated balance.
