Hampden Estate 8 Year Old

Hampden Estate 8 Year Old is an 8-year-old rum from Hampden Estate distillery in Jamaica. Fermented naturally and distilled in traditional copper stills, this expression bottled at 46% abv.

Hampden Estate, which has been among the most popular among rum lovers in recent years, is well-known for using traditional production methods that have not changed since the 18th century. These methods include the long and natural fermentation processes that enable them to obtain high ester in their rums, the use of dunder & muck (we can summarize as sour mash in rum production) and maturation in tropical conditions.

Nose: Tropical and rich fruit notes of vanilla, pineapple, banana, peach, apricot and grape are accompanied by old furniture, mint and tobacco. A very sweet, aromatic and “funky” nose.

Palate: As on the nose, it is sweet and quite full, but we can say that it is a little more spicy. Flavors of caramel, cola jelly beans, chocolate, black pepper, cinnamon and burnt oak.

Finish: A long finish with vanilla, pineapple and oak flavors.

During 2022, I have been trying to taste the every Hampden Estate bottles that I came across in the tasting and they continue to surprise and fascinate me. This 8-year-old bottling by Hampden Estate is “funky” on the nose and a rich and layered rum with a spicy texture on the palate.

Son yıllarda rom severler arasında en popüler arasında yer alan Hampden Estate, 18.yy’dan beri değişmeyen geleneksek üretim metotlarını kullanmasıyla ünlü bir marka. Bu metotlar arasında romlarında yüksek ester elde etmelerini sağlayan uzun ve doğal fermantasyon süreçleri, dunder & muck kullanımı (rom üretiminde sour mash olarak özetleyebiliriz) ve tropik koşullarda olgunlaşma bulunuyor.

Burun: Vanilya, ananas, muz, şeftali, kayısı ve üzüm tropik ve zengin meyve kokularına eski mobilya, nane ve tütün eşlik ediyor. Oldukça tatlı, aromatik ve canlı bir burun.

Damak: Burunda olduğu gibi tatlı ve oldukça dolgun, fakat biraz daha baharatlı olduğunu söyleyebiliriz. Karamel, kolalı jelibon, çikolata, karabiber, tarçın ve yanık meşe aromaları.

Bitiş: Vanilya, ananas ve meşe aromaları ile uzun bir bitiş.

2022 içerisinde karşıma çıkan tüm tadımlarda denemeye gayret gösterdiğim Hampden Estate şişeleri gerçekten beni şaşırtmaya ve kendine hayran bırakmaya devam ediyor. Hampden Estate’in 8 yıllık bu şişelemesi burunda “funky”, damaktaki baharatlı yapısıyla oldukça zengin ve katmanlı bir rom.
